Lithuania celebrates Europe Day

When celebrating the Europe Day, people of Vilnius and guests of the city are encouraged to feel as Europeans and participate in various activities – games, excursions, concerts, other public festivities.

Events for this happy occasion are already taking place. Lithuanian diplomats actively participate in the Back to School initiative and visit schools and gymnasiums in various Lithuanian towns and villages. They meet teachers and pupils there and discuss the origins, values and evolution of Europe, present Lithuania’s path to the European Union and benefits Lithuania gets from the EU membership. Minister of Foreign Affairs Lithuania Linas Linkevičius will deliver a public lecture How have Lithuania and Europe changed over 11 years of EU membership? at Klaipeda University on 8 May.

On 7 May, Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry organised a written quiz where diplomats and other employees checked their knowledge about the EU. On 7 and 8 May, everybody are invited to play the Europassport game, by visiting Europe House and embassies of the EU and Eastern Partnership countries in Vilnius. On 8 May, the Foreign Ministry opens its doors to visitors and presents Lithuania’s foreign and the EU policy and day-to-day activities. Visiting the building is a part of the programme. On 8 and 9 May, Ministry of Foreign Affairs invites the public to discover the traces of Europe and prominent Europeans in Vilnius. The concert in the centre of the city on the evening of May 9 should be an attractive event for everybody.

There are many other events taking place in the capital and in the regions these days to celebrate Europe Day.
