Lithuania considers doubling its contribution to NATO Response Force

Under a draft resolution submitted to the Seimas, parliament, 507 Lithuanian troops will join the NATO Response Force in 2017 and there will be 455 in 2018.

The Ministry of National Defence has told BNS that the country plans to send units from its Navy, Special Operations Forces and Land Force as well as logistics specialists and military police officers.

A company-size infantry contingent from Lithuania is on standby with the NATO Response Force this year. In all, around 200 troops are assigned to the force at the moment, the army’s Joint Staff told BNS.

The Seimas of Lithuania is also set to consider the country’s contribution to the UK-led Combined Joint Expeditionary Force involving 7 NATO countries. The Lithuanian parliament has received a proposal to send up to 200 troops from the Land Force and Logistics Board to join the CJEF.
