The government considered amendments to the Law on Genetically Modified Organisms that were prepared by MP Kęstutis Daukšys. Based on the amendments, food products containing GMOs would be labelled to warn consumers about unknown and unexamined impact of GMOs on human health.
“Consumers must have a right to be informed about the presence of GMOs in food products. Then they would themselves decide whether to buy such products or not,” said Justice Minister Juozas Bernatonis.
The amendments will be considered by parliament.
