“The government has approved a list of 27 professions that require high qualifications and are badly needed for the economy. A list of highly qualified professionals for whom entry into Lithuania has been simplified,” Skvernelis told the LRT radio station on Tuesday morning.
“If we see that some sectors face a critical shortage of highly qualified specialists, then we could add one or another profession to the list,” he said.
When asked about a need for facilitating entry into Lithuania for all foreigners to amid a rapid population decline due to emigration, the prime minister said that the top priority was to stop Lithuanians from leaving their country.
The government last February approved a list of 27 highly qualified professions for which there are not enough local workers. Such foreigners are issued with permits through a simplified procedure. The minimum salary threshold for highly-qualified foreigners was lowered to 1.5 times the average monthly salary, from three times.
