Lithuania earmarks EUR 20,000 for Palestinian refugees

The money will be transferred to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), the Foreign Ministry said.

The agency supports more than 5 million Palestinian refugees, including 1.2 million people living in absolute poverty and 700,000 people unable to satisfy their basic nutritional needs. Without sufficient funding, the agency would have to limit its operations in the fields of education, health and social security, camp infrastructure and microfinances. The agency also provides immediate aid in cases of emergencies and armed conflicts.
