The recently-discovered gas fields could become one of the alternative to Russian gas, the Press Service of the Lithuanian President said.

The then Israeli Energy and Water Resources Minister Uzi Landau spoke about opportunities to supply gas to Lithuania during his visit to the Baltic country back in April, 2012. He then said, however, it would be possible no earlier than in 2018.

Two large off-shore gas fields have been discovered in Israel in recent years. The country is still weighing how much gas it needs itself and how much of it the country could export, mainly to European countries.
