“By choosing the path towards Europe, King Mindaugas laid the foundations for the establishment of our independent state. Let us be proud of our history, and we will never allow anyone to diminish it,” Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė said in a statement.
On the occasion, the president will bestow state decorations upon Lithuanian and foreign citizens.
At midday, the president will attend a solemn national flag raising ceremony in Simonas Daukantas Square in central Vilnius and congratulate people of Lithuania. Commemorative events will also be held in Lithuania’s other majors cities of Kaunas and Klaipėda.
