“The equipment is not being installed yet. Following public procurement by the State Border Guard Service, the supplier is now offering equipment which, the document show, has been produced in Slovakia, not Russia. The company represents a Russian producer, so it’s legalized and certified in the European Union,” the minister told journalists on Tuesday.
In his words, the SBGD has issued two calls for tenders, and there’s been an order to halt one of them, worth EUR 2.75 million and related to the update of mobile equipment. It’s being halted due to suspicions that the offered price might have been deliberately overstated. The Lithuanian Special Investigation Service has also been asked to investigate the fact.
Skvernelis also said he plans to initiate amendments to take into account not only the price but also the country the producer or service provider represents during public procurement related to national and public security.
