“Collecting and analysing information about passengers in advance is necessary for the law enforcement of the European Union member states in the fight against terrorism. This is particularly important for prevention, identification and investigation of serious crime and ensuing criminal prosecution,” said Lithuania’s Interior Minister Saulius Skvernelis.
The so-called Passenger Name Record (PNR) project will enable law enforcement agencies to access air carriers’ ticket reservation, departure control and passenger flight information.
Lithuania already has necessary equipment for the PNR system, which will also cover internal EU flights. Lithuania is one of 14 EU member states that received EU funding in 2012 to implement the PNR system.
