Lithuania presented at tourism event in Stockholm

The event was opened by Lithuanian Ambassador to Sweden Eitvydas Bajarūnas who underlined that tourism is one of the most important economic sectors in the Baltic Sea region. “The world tourism today is one of the largest industries, generating about 9.5 percent. of world GDP, and according to estimates the role of tourism will grow steadily. So it is very important to exploit this potential, “said the ambassador. At the same time, according to the ambassador, tourism is a very important tool for the further opening Lithuania to Swedes, to explore all aspects of our country – the economy, history, heritage, nature, gastronomy, sports and so on. According Bajarūnas we can identify several directions, which has fundamentally changed the face of tourism Lithuania, and might be very attractive to tourists from Sweden. It is revived historical objects and natural monuments – castles, monasteries complexes, cognitive scenic routes, coastal bike paths and national culinary heritage.

During the event, Lithuanian tourism opportunities were presented to Swedish media by the State Tourism Department spokeswoman Edita Gaigalienė, Project Manager Helen Wiberg of Lithuanian State Tourism Department representative office in Scandinavia company AVIAREPS, Europe Centre Golf Club representative Mindaugas Glinskis, Managing Director of company Baltic Travel Eglė Jaugienė. Marketing Director Sandra Meškauskaitė and company Air Lituanica representative in Sweden Farzana Karim outlined flights to Lithuania.

The goal of the event was to establish and develop contacts with key media which inform Swedish society about Lithuanian tourist routes and tourism news. Swedish journalists particularly interested in information on SPA, golf courses, culinary heritage, which was introduced by the first certified Lithuania‘s beer sommelier Donatas Dabrovolskas and by representatives in Sweden of several small Lithuanian breweries.

This is not the first this year that tourism presentations are taking place in Sweden. At the beginning of the year Lithuania was presented at the opening of a new Air Lituanica journey Vilnius-Stockholm. On March. Lithuania was presented at the biggest Scandinavian tourism fair in Gothenburg. It is planned that on Mid-June Lithuanian tourism will be presented in Northern Sweden – Luleå and Östersund.

At the moment you can reach Vilnius from Stockholm by several companies – Air Lituanica, SAS, Norwegian. From Malmö – by company Wizzair. Ferry services are also popular: the company DFDS operates ferry Karlshamn-Klaipeda and company Tallink-SiljaLine operates route Stockholm-Riga. According to the Lithuanian State Tourism Department last year compared with 2013 the number of tourists from Sweden to Lithuania has increased over 12 percent and amounted to about 26 thousand.
