In the minister’s words, Lithuania also plans to send military aid in the form of medicines, contributing to the international coalition’s actions in fighting the group now in control of several territories in Iraq and Syria.
“We have decided to support the coalition in its fight against terrorists in Iraq by, first of all, sending humanitarian medical aid from our national defence system. We are also ready to contribute to the training of Iraqi troops and send military instructors, if there’s such a need and if there’s agreement on forming such a mission with the coalition partners,” the minister told BNS.
According to Olekas, Lithuania could send “several people.” “We have experience as we took part in the training of Iraqi troops eight years ago. If needed, we could do that,” he said.
The United States is mobilizing an international anti-ISIS coalition as the Americans, British and French are carrying out air strikes against the group’s positions. Belgium, Denmark and the Netherlands have also pledged to send fighter jets.
Several Arab countries, including Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, are also involved in the fight against the ISIS.
