Lithuania records EU’s second largest decrease in house prices

House prices, as measured by the House Price Index (HPI), rose by 1.1 percent in the euro area and by 2.6 percent in the EU in the fourth quarter of 2014 compared with the same quarter of the previous year. Compared with the third quarter of 2014, house prices slightly decreased in the euro area (-0.1 percent) and remained stable in the EU in the fourth quarter of 2014.

Among the member-states for which data are available, the highest annual increases in house prices in the fourth quarter of 2014 were recorded in Ireland (+16.3 percent), Malta (+11.0 percent), Sweden (+10.4 percent), Estonia (+10.1 percent) and the United Kingdom (+10.0 percent), and the largest falls in Slovenia (-4.4 percent), Cyprus (-3.3 percent), Latvia (-3.2 percent) and Italy(-2.9 percent).
