Lithuania to be first Baltic state with ‘stumbling stone’ Holocaust memorials

The mini-memorials to almost 20 Holocaust victims — Jews and Romas — will be laid in Vilnius, Kaunas, Šiauliai and Panevėžys in the places where these people once lived, worked or studied, the Lithuanian Human Rights Center said in a press release on Tuesday.

Lithuania is the first Baltic state to join the project, it said.

The stones will be laid by Gunter Demnig, the German architect and artist who initiated the project.

Over 50,000 stumbling-stone memorials have been installed hundreds of cities and towns in 18 European countries.
