Lithuanian army launches intl tender for modular buildings for new artillery battalion

The Defense Resource Agency under the Defense Ministry on Thursday launched an international tender to purchase modular and portable buildings for the Brigadier General Motiejus Pečiulionis Artillery Battalion.

According to the Defense Ministry, it is planned to buy around 270 container-type buildings and a tent-hangar for a military camp that will have residential, staff, administrative, leisure, catering and medical areas and a servicing yard.

The battalion’s camp, which is expected to be installed by the end of 2018, will accommodate around 250 troops, mostly conscripts, and will be used until permanent infrastructure is in place in Pajuris.

The artillery battalion is part of the Mechanized Infantry Brigade Žemaitija.

Deputy Defense Minister Giedrimas Jeglinskas says that the new military unit is being established in a region that has until now had no military units.

“The development of the Mechanized Infantry Brigade Žemaitija is one of the priorities for the modernization of the Lithuanian Armed Forces this year, and the provision of the new artillery battalion with the infrastructure necessary for its operation is one of the processes that have already begun,” he said.
