Lithuanian court rules against euro referendum

“The court has decided to turn the complaint down as unfounded,” Neringa Lukoševičienė, the court’s spokeswoman, told BNS.

The court would substantiate its decision in more detail somewhat later, she added.

In April, the election panel refused to register an initiative to call a referendum on the preservation of the litas. The group behind the initiative called to amend the Constitution to make the litas the only national currency in Lithuania and the Bank of Lithuania – the sole issuer of currency in the country.
