Lithuanian exporters ‘will start turning towards China’ in two years

Verslo Žinios reports that, at the moment, China looks like an attractive export market for Lithuanian food producers, while others prefer markets closer at home and regards South-East Asia as a distant option.

“Getting a foothold in China is a priority today for Lithuania’s food industry, since the concentration of food producers in Europe is huge. Other industries can still find markets in Europe, which is what they are focusing on,” explains Juozas Preikša of the Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists.

“But in a year or two, the European market can become saturated, which is when these companies, too, will start turning towards China,” he adds.

Andrius Rakickas, president of the Lithuanian Association of Car Parts Makers and Exporters, says that members of the association currently focus on Western Europe, the Balkan countries and Scandinavia, since they are closer. However, he adds, China is on the Lithuanian exporters’ radar, too, as a possible future market.
