Lithuanian fishing vessel’s case to be handed over to court in Russia

“Today a protocol of administrative offence was drawn up. The inspectorate still believes the vessel entered Russia’s special economic zone for a short period of time. They made the claims, we responded with our explanations that we disagree with the accusations. The case is being handed over to court,” Vladimir Odiagailo, the lawyer for Arctic Fishing, the company that owns the vessel, told BNS on Friday.

In his words, the case materials should reach court early next week.

Earlier this week, an appeal over the size of the bail was lodged with Murmansk District Court. The court set bail at 113 million roubles (7.8 million litas). The appeal suggests paying up to 30 million roubles (around 2 million litas).

According to Odiagailo, the court will hear the bail issue on Thursday. He also said earlier this week, that the bail is twice the value of the vessel which is now in the Port of Murmansk.

Lithuania says Russia detained the fishing vessel illegally in September after armed officers seized control of it.
