“The participation of Allies on a large scale demonstrates Allied solidarity with countries in the region and ensure visibility of Allied forces,” Leika, the commander of the Lithuanian Army’s Land Forces, told journalists on Monday.
Held in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland on June 1–19, the Saber Strike 2015 exercise will involve about 6,000 troops from 13 NATO member-states and Finland. It is organized by the US forces in Europe.
“This is one of the biggest exercises in Lithuania since our accession to NATO,” said Leika.
Lithuania is this year the main host nation of the exercise. About 3,000 soldiers will be involved in the training in Lithuania, including half of them Lithuanian.
In addition to other military equipment, the exercise will feature Abrams tanks, B-52 bombers and A-10 attack airplanes.
