Lithuanian Genocide Centre published data on 620 former KGB agents

A special website kgbveikla.lt contains information from the registration journal of archives of KGB agents.

All in all, the journal includes data of 1,669 individuals who collaborated with the Soviet State Security Committee, KGB, between 1940 and 1979.

Started in 1987, the journal contains information about agents, informers and other secret KGB collaborators who were recruited in different periods between 1940 and 1979. The principle and the purpose of the journal is unknown.

“Additional analysis of additional archive and other sources about the individuals on the list revealed that some of the recruited individuals never worked as agents. They are likely to have agreed to collaborate just to get out of the Cheka. It cannot be ruled out that the individuals were included in the list for operational purposes or in order to discredit them,” said the centre.

The centre has not published names of persons who have admitted their KGB collaboration voluntarily.
