Lithuanian government turns to European Commission over detained ship

According to Minister of Agriculture Virginija Baltraitienė, all circumstances of the incident will be thoroughly investigated.

On 22 September, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a note to the Russian Embassy in Lithuania protesting against illegal actions of Russian officers that occurred on 18 September resulting in the detention of the trawler Jūros Vilkas that was sailing with the Lithuanian flag in the Barents Sea, the arrest of the crew and the ship’s redirection to the port of Murmansk.

Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius said that a diplomatic note was received from the Russian Federation, which says that the vessel will be detained until 25 September due to alleged administrative violations.
