Lithuanian intelligence agency: we respect PM’s wish to declassify info, but assess harm

“We respect the prime minister’s request or wish to declassify as much information as possible, but VSD decides whether any harm will be cause to the investigation, which is a continuing operation,” Aurelija Katkuvienė, the intelligence agency’s spokeswoman, told BNS.

Skvernelis said on Thursday that he would seek that the entire material of a parliamentary investigation into unlawful influence by interest groups and individuals on the country’s political system be made public.

The media earlier this week released some declassified information from the intelligence agency regarding MG Baltic‘s influence on political processes. Portions of the text are blacked out.

VSD has submitted the document to the Seimas Committee on National Security and Defense, which is conducting the probe, as well as to the president, the speaker of the Seimas and the prime minister.

According to Katkuvienė, VSD only provides information to the decision-makers, as provided for by law, and it is the decision-makers that decide whether to make it public.

Vytautas Bakas, the committee’s chairman, says that the released information accounts for less than a third of the investigation material.
