Lithuanian Interior Ministry to review IT contracts amidst suspicions of favoritism

Assignments were given to the Property Management and Maintenance Department and other institutions under the Ministry of the Interior (VRM): the Fire and Rescue Department, the State Border Guard Service, the Financial Crime Investigation Service, the Police Department, the Public Security Service and the VIP Protection Department.

“It is rather interesting that the same company has been constantly winning IT contracts worth several and even dozens of millions of litas. Although such a fact in itself proves nothing, it does call for analysis of full information in order to reject or confirm doubts,” says Skvernelis.

According to the minister, not only those contracts will be scrutinised under which the company was a provider of services, but also those in which the company was a subcontractor.

Skvernelis said that the ministry will take action and refer to law enforcement agencies if any violations are found.
