Roughly 200 soldiers of the Lithuanian Land Force will train in NATO‘s Exercise Trident Juncture in composition of the Baltic Battalion
On 19 October a company of King Mindaugas Hussar Battalion reinforced by a headquarters element and supported by an anti-tank platoon of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Kęstutis Mechanised Infantry Battalion, the total of approximately 200 troops, depart for field training exercise (FTX) of the land element of NATO’s Exercise trident Juncture 2015 in Spain.
The Lithuanian contingent will act as part of the Baltic Battalion (BALTBAT) assigned to the NATO Response Force for 2016 in San Gregorio Training Area in Spain.
Apart from the contingent formed by Land Force’s soldiers, Lithuania also sends nearly 50 units if military materiel and MCM vessel LNS Skalvis (M53) of the Lithuanian Navy. Military logisticians, military police personnel and military medics will ensure support to the Lithuanian Land Force’s personnel training in the exercise.
Exercise Trident Juncture 2015 taking place across various locations in Spain, Italy, Portugal, Belgium, Canada, Germany the Netherlands, and Norway is the largest NATO exercise since 2002. The exercise scenario involves over 36 thousand troops from over 30 NATO and partner countries completing land, maritime and air operations.
Exercise Trident Juncture 2015 will train and certify NATO Response Force for 2016. NATO Response Force is a well-trained and technologically advanced multinational force including land, air, naval and special operations components.
