Lithuanian MP Balsys suspected of being drunk in parlt, police may be called in (Updated)

Rima Baškienė, first vice-speaker of the Seimas, confirmed this to journalists, adding that lawmaker may face impeachment.

Balsys, the leader of the Lithuanian Green Party, agreed to blow into a breathalyzer device when asked to by journalists, producing a reading of 1.82 per mille of alcohol.

“I know that he agreed to breathe into the breathalyzer and he apparently admits that this is unacceptable. We can’t allow him to work in such a (drunken) condition,” Viktoras Pranckietis, the speaker of the Seimas, told journalists, commenting on the situation.

At the same time, he underlined the need for looking for ways to help the parliamentarian, saying that alcoholism is a disease.

Balsys, a former advisor to President Dalia Grybauskaitė and a journalist, is serving his second term as lawmaker.
