The Ministry of Education and Science said the Volkswagen Crafter buses were purchased for over €1.2 million.
The yellow-coloured buses have been given to Lithuanian municipalities for the past 16 years to transport children to and from school, as well as after-school activities, trips, competitions and other events.
Over 700 school buses were used by Lithuanian schools last year. The State Audit Office said in spring that the number should be higher, an opinion supported by the Education Ministry, which replied that further purchases were restricted by limited financial resources.
