Lithuanian Order and Justice party 290,000 euros in debt after EP elections

Monday is the last day for parties that ran in the EP elections and presidential candidates to submit their financial reports. The electoral watchdog told BNS it had received most of the reports, except from the Labour Party, the Liberal and Centre Union, and the presidential candidate Artūras Paulauskas.

According to data published by the Central Electoral Commission, the Order and Justice party collected 1.08 million litas in donations (660,000 litas earmarked by the party and 390,000 litas received from the state budget).

However, the party spent 2.01 million litas on the campaign and was left with a debt of 929,900 litas.

Kęstas Komskis, the head of the party’s election bureau, told BNS that the debt was generated by unplanned costs, which, in his words, were not unexpected.

“We counted on spending 1.5-2 million litas. We don’t have the money today but we will receive a state grant and cover it,” he said.

The Liberal Movement, which also secured two EP mandates, is also running a debt of 218,400 litas, while the Peasant and Greens Union is more than 108,000 litas in debt.

The EP elections were held in May.
