Lithuanian parliament committee to discuss anti-terrorism measures

“We have somewhat forgotten the issue of terrorism. The events in France prompted to renew discussions and ascertain the level of threat. We will invite heads of responsible institutions and hear what they have to say,” Chairman of the committee Artūras Paulauskas said.

According to the head of the committee, current laws envisage that all information regarding possible attacks must be transferred to the Police Department which takes decisions over their neutralisation or persecution of suspects.

“Even though the State Security Department (VSD) mentioned in its public reports that terrorism threat in Lithuania is low, we cannot disregard terrorism, especially when it claims human lives,” said Paulauskas.

The committee’s sitting should be held behind closed doors.
