In her closing speech, Parliamentary Speaker Loreta Graužinienė thanked members of parliament for their constructive work. “The session was very busy, very constructive, I want to thank the coalition partners for their concentration and the opposition for their constructive criticism and the work together, as in many cases they supported the good decisions we proposed,” said the parliamentary speaker.
Under the Constitution, the spring session should be over on 30 June, however, it was extended until 17 July due to the presidential elections. After presidential elections, the government must return its mandate, and the parliament must give a green light to candidate for prime minister.
After the parliament supported Social Democrat Algirdas Butkevičius for the position on Tuesday, the president appointed him as prime minister, and signed a decree on Wednesday to approve a new line-up of the government.
