“But I think that the minister had to do it prior to the appointment to the post rather than afterwards,” she told the radio Žinių Radijas on Wednesday. According to Graužinienė, “if a person goes into politics, he has to be frank”.
“People who elect him must know about the politician nominated to a high political position. I cannot say how much they need to know about his private life. Here the politician himself is the most likely person to decide on how much he wants to publicize anything related to his personal life,” insisted Graužinienė.
However, Lithuania’s parliamentary speaker would not give her opinion about Rinkevics’ personal decision to come out as gay: “There is nothing to rejoice or cry about here, if a person chose to announce it.”
