Lithuanian parliament to consider privatisation of arms factory

The MPs have noted that the factory is a strategic object significant to national security, therefore members of the Committee should be granted all the information about the conditions of privatisation and the necessity of the process altogether.

On 11 February, the arms factory was included in the list of objects to be privatised on the decision of the government. The company was set up in 2000, it manufactures bullets for rifles, most of which are sold to the armed forces of NATO countries.

“The factory had financial troubles and its privatisation was discussed a number of times. However, it is an important strategic object for national security, especially today when there is Russia’s aggression against Ukraine,” said Juknevičienė.

In 2013 the factory’s yearly turnover stood at nearly EUR 6 million, earnings before tax exceeded EUR 0.75 million.
