Lithuanian plane veers off runway at Birmingham airport

Nobody was injured during the incident.

Simonas Bartkus, head of marketing at Small Planet Airlines, has told BNS the company does not know yet what caused the plane to veer off the runway onto a grass verge after landing at the airport. The plane flew in from Paderborn, in Germany.

Bartkus has said that none of the 98 passengers on board have been injured.

“The plane veered off the runway while it was taxing to the terminal after landing and stopped on the grass. The passengers were not injured. We are currently looking into the causes,” he said.

According to Bartkus, the Airbus 320 is being inspected by the company’s own and hired experts, who may present their findings within a week or two.

“Small Planet Airlines has replacement aircraft. Therefore, this (incident) will have no impact on our operations,” he told BNS.

Small Planet Airlines has a fleet of 15 Airbus aircraft.

Small Planet Group, a company owned by Vytautas Kaikaris and Andrius Staniulis, owns 100 percent of shares in the charter airline.
