Lithuanian PM: Political scientists should be at the vanguard of information resistance

“Dramatic events in Ukraine and strained relations with Russia call for vigilance in relation to the armed conflict menacing Europe. (…) In such environment political science becomes as relevant as ever. Information war without front lines is one of the greater challenges for our security. Therefore, I regard the position and resolve of political scientists to carry out their duties not only as academic work but as protection of democratic values,” the prime minister said welcoming the participants of a conference Perception of Quality Policy in Lithuania that takes place in Kaunas.

The prime minister noted the upcoming first ever direct mayoral elections, he said the input of political scientists will also be important. Mayors will be elected directly for the first time next year. According to Butkevičius, political scientists are the ones that can help people choose and distinguish responsible and committed candidates from those that only give empty promises.
