Lithuanian PM says Order and Justice party will not quit coalition

The prime minister said in the interview to the Žinių Radijas radio that despite “conspiracy theories” about the party’s withdrawal, there have been no such hints.

The head of the government believes that the interior minister must hold his office even as the investigation into suspected corruption within his team continues. Butkevičius said he met and talked with the heads of law enforcement institutions in an attempt to clarify the interior minister’s role in the story.

“It was clearly stated that he was not a part of the investigation, although something may come to light in the future. Based on this information, it would be unjust from my part to demand for a dismissal while the investigation is ongoing. I assume that everything was happening outside the ministry or unbeknownst to the minister,” said the prime minister.

According to Butkevičius, when a person is hired, it is impossible to say if he or she is honest and responsible. The prime minister intends to discuss the situation with Rolandas Paksas, the leader of the party Order and Justice.
