The prime minister said he decided to do so after it turned out that the information on Gedvilas the prime minister and President Dalia Grybauskaitė had received did not match.
“I met with the head of the STT this morning, and I know what information he presented to the president and what information the president presented to me. But it’s already getting ridiculous when we start speaking about it in public. But I know that I’m right. (…) I will ask today the STT head to provide more detailed information. I will definitely look into it and I think the escalation of this issue will end, and all interpretations and doubts will end,” the prime minister told the national radio LRT on Tuesday morning.
According to Butkevičius, he met Gedvilas three times when considering him for the ministerial position and the Labour candidate answered all his questions.
Presidential adviser Renaldas Vaisbrodas said on Tuesday the president, who rejected Gedvilas’ candidacy, based her decision on the STT report.
