Matters of common regional interest related to the international situation, security, the Eastern Partnership, and economic reforms in Europe including the need to strengthen the Economic and Monetary Union, will be discussed at the meeting.
The prime minister welcomes the development of relations between the Nordic and the Baltic countries as well as their successful cooperation in various areas. Bearing in mind the current geopolitical changes as well as regional and global challenges, the countries must remain consistent in defending their values of respect for human rights and efforts to maintain international peace and security.
On Tuesday, on the eve of this meeting, the prime minister is meeting representatives of the Lithuanian community of Iceland as well as Andres Magnusson, the Honorary Consul in Iceland, with whom he will briefly discuss foreign policy, economy and energy sectors, and will thank him for the work dedicated to strengthening the relationship between Lithuania and Iceland.
On Wednesday evening Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičcius will also participate in the opening of the Northern Future Forum, which unites leaders of the Nordic and the Baltic countries, and the UK.
