Grybauskaitė has signed a decree proposing Butkevičius for parliament’s approval, the President’s Office said.
Parliament intends to decide on Butkevičius’ future at the helm of the Cabinet on Tuesday.
According to the Constitution, the government is to return its mandate to a newly-elected president who should propose a candidate for prime minister within 15 days to parliament.
Once parliament gives its go-ahead to the candidate, the president appoints the prime minister and authorizes him to form the government, the line-up of which is approved by the president in a decree.
