Lithuanian president proposes new candidate for prosecutor general

“The candidate is a law professional who has experience as a pre-trial investigation officer and a judge, he also has leadership experience,” the President’s Office said in a statement.

The president’s spokeswoman Daiva Ulbinatė said that other top-ranking officials have been informed about the new candidate.

“The Seimas speaker, the prime minister, and the heads of the main political groups in the Seimas have been informed, as well as the chairpersons of the Seimas Anti-Corruption Commission and the Committee on Legal Affairs,” Ulbinatė told news agency ELTA.

Pašilis has been working as a judge for 15 years. The 42-year-old, who graduated from the Police Academy and Vilnius University, has headed the District Court of Ukmergė Region for five years.

According to the President’s Office, several weeks ago the commission for appointment of judges unanimously acknowledged that Pašilis is one of the most suitable candidates to become a judge at the Criminal Case Department of the Court of Appeal. The commission characterised Pašilis as a person with good administrative skills, excellent professional culture, who is objective and honest, and strives for the highest professional standards.

As reported, earlier the Lithuania Parliament twice rejected candidates for the prosecutor general who were put forward by the president. Currently Darius Raulušaitis is Acting Prosecutor General.
