I have no doubt that he will receive the Nobel Prize,” said professor and chairman of biotech company, Biotechpharma, Vladas Bumelis said at the LOGIN conference in Vilnius.
Šikšnys developed the new approach together with two scientists from Berkeley in the United States.
Genetic engineering, according to Bumelis, is currently one of the most important science fields in the world. The twenty-first century will be the age of biology, he said.
“Everyone says that it is possible to create very good information technology companies, but otherwise, it is an age of biology. Understanding of the genome opens tremendous opportunities for discoveries and business,” said the professor.
“It will be possible to see a mammoth in the zoo. It will be possible to clone a human. There are only ethical issues whether people want to do that,” said Bumelis.
