“Today there is a 60% chance That Šikšnys, Professor of the Vilnius University’s Institute of Biotechnology will receive the Nobel Prize in the course of a few years,” the Žukauskas told Lithuanian magazine, Veidas.
The rector said he was aware that the Nobel committee had last year considered a Nobel Prize for the invention, but did not include it due to a high number of other applicants.
Šikšnys recently jointly won the internationally renowned Warren Alpert Prize from Harvard University’s Medical School for the technology he developed for editing genes.
