Lithuanian Seimas to discuss Labour Code veto on Saturday

“The agenda for September 10 will include all presidential vetoes and citizens’ initiative (on alcohol sale restrictions), as required by the Statute,” Seimas Speaker Loreta Graužinienė said on Monday after discussing the autumn session’s program with members of the Cabinet.

“Therefore we will have a very busy Saturday at the Seimas,” she said.

Grybauskaitė vetoed six laws adopted by the Seimas during the last spring session, including the new Labour Code and the Law on Assisted Reproduction.

Under the Seimas Statute, if the president vetoes a law, the parliament must decide by voting whether to debate on the law anew or to reject it.

The current Seimas will open the autumn session on Saturday, but it will be closed by the new parliament that will be elected in October.
