Based on the Labour Code, when collective labour disputes are heard, the role of a conciliator is to harmonise interests of the sides and help find a mutually beneficial solution. The joint representation of education trade unions proposed the conciliator’s candidacy which the ministry accepted. The dispute will be conciliated by Dr Daiva Petrylaitė, Head of the Institute of Collective Labour Law and Social Partnership at the Faculty of Law of Vilnius University.
According to lawyer Andrius Chudenkovas, the ministry’s position shows that it has finally recognised being one of the sides of a collective dispute. Now the disagreement can be settled peacefully. The collective labour dispute has to be resolved within 10 days after the conciliator is appointed.
Chair of the Lithuanian Education Employees Trade Union (LSDPS) Andrius Navickas proposed to suspend the strike that was scheduled for 1 October until after the negotiations with the intermediary are completed. The coordination council agreed with the proposal. If the negotiations end by signing a protocol of disagreement a new date for a strike will be announced.
