“On Friday, we suspended the company’s operating license and now are looking into the situation. We expect to provide more information shortly,” Juozas Raguckas, deputy head of the Tourism Department, told BNS.
Fresh Travel CEO Gediminas Kerys could not be reached by BNS for comment on Friday.
The website of the travel agency, which often sold cheap trips via group-buying sites, could not be accessed on Friday evening.
Fresh Travel offered holiday trips to Portugal (Madeira), Turkey, Egypt and the Canary Islands and had plans to expand into Latvia, Belarus and Estonia. Reportedly, Latvian citizens made up one-tenth of its customers.
This is not the first travel agency in Lithuania to have had its license suspended this year. Go Baltic Travel, Go Planet Travel and Neoturas stopped operating and went bankrupt earlier this year.
