Lithuanians donate over EUR 12 million to organizations and political parties

The political parties will be transferred over 2.554 million litas.

All in all, 21,000 various beneficiaries will receive resident’s support this year.

In Lithuania, people are able to donate 2 percent of their paid income tax to various foundations, associations, trade unions and other organizations, and 1 percent to political parties.

Social democrats take lion’s share

The ruling Social Democratic Party of Lithuania has received the lion’s share of donations this year, made by people allowed to transfer 1 percent of their paid income tax to support political parties.

Figures from the State Tax Inspectorate show that 14,000 people donated 610,714 litas (over EUR 176,000).

The opposition Homeland Union–Lithuanian Christian Democrats came in second after almost 10,000 people donated 1 percent of their paid income tax – 571,051 litas in total.

The Liberal Movement received donations from 8,200 people (526,705 litas).

Last year, the Homeland Union led the top-three with 537,000 litas, followed by the Social Democrats (499,000 litas) and the Liberal Movement (429,000 litas).

More donations to the army

Russia’s actions in Ukraine have made Lithuanians donate more to the country’s army, according to the latest figures from the State Tax Inspectorate.

890 people have donated 2 percent of their paid income tax (124,304 litas or almost EUR 36,000) to the army this year, compared to only three people (479 litas) last year.

108 people – twice as many as last year – have donated 13,603 litas to the Lithuanian Riflemen’s Union and he Ministry of National Defence has received 11,856 litas.
