Lithuanians more optimistic about future prospects, economy

The number of Lithuanians that expected their family’s financial situation would improve in the coming years increased in January compared to December (22% from 20%) while the number of people who believe their financial situation would become worse also declined (14% from 17%).

One-third of the population (34%) expect the economy will improve in Lithuania this year, up from around a quarter of people surveyed in December. However, the number of people who said they would not be able to save any money also increased (62% from 61%).

The number of Lithuanians who think the country’s economic situation has improved over the past year also increased, from 21% in December to 26% in January.

Statisticians noted that consumer confidence is growing faster in urban than in rural areas, and that men were more optimistic about the prospects for the economy than women.

Overall, Lithuanian consumer confidence indicator was slightly lower than the European Union average.
