Based on data provided by the Bank of Lithuania, Lithuanian residents exchanged cash amounting to nearly LTL 5.3 billion (€1.53 billion) from 1 January 2015 to the end of November. According to the bank, residents have still kept 11.6 million litas banknotes and 855.8 million litas coins. So far, the Bank of Lithuania has received 80 percent of all litas banknotes and 22 percent of all coins.
€2 billion in cash issued by the Bank of Lithuania is in circulation at the moment, which is a third lower than there should be because many people kept their money in their bank accounts after depositing it prior to the currency exchange.
