According to the survey, 31.4 percent of respondents specified Brazauskas who served as Lithuania’s head of state in 1993-1998 as having done the most for the state of Lithuania, while 27.4 percent referred to Valdas Adamkus who served two tenures in 1998-2003 and 2004-2009.
The input made by incumbent President Dalia Grybauskaitė was highlighted by 11.7 percent of respondents, that of Lithuania’s first post-independence leader Vytautas Landsbergis by 10.9 percent and that of impeached president Rolandas Paksas by 2.8 percent. Another 15.8 percent of those polled did not provide an answer.
Asked about the most important interwar president, 49.1 percent referred to Antanas Smetona, while Aleksandras Stulginskis and Kazys Grinius were specified by 16 percent and 14.7 percent, respectively. Another 20.2 percent did not provide an answer.
The survey of 1,005 respondents aged 18 to 75 was conducted for delfi.lt news portal by Spinter Tyrimai on April 19-26.
