Lithuania’s conservatives to elect new party leader this week

On Monday and Tuesday, early voting will take place at the party’s central bureau in Vilnius. Voting in the conservative party’s offices across Lithuania will be held on Friday through Sunday.

All votes will be counted on Sunday, Paulė Kuzmickienė, deputy executive secretary of the party, told BNS.

The most realistic candidates for the post are Parliamentary Vice-Speaker Irena Degutienė and MEP Gabrielius Landsbergis who is supported by the party’s current leader Andrius Kubilius.

The Homeland Union has nearly 15,000 members and was number-two party, after the Social Democrats, in local elections this March.
