Lithuania’s dismissed energy minister says he was forced into appointing controversial deputy

“I attempted to explain the damage of this step to the interests of the state of Lithuania, the party’s image, however, I realized that my argumentation was getting me nowhere,” the ex-minister said in an interview to the daily Lietuvos Rytas on Wednesday.

Neverovič said he gave in to the pressure of the party’s leaders, since the LLRA, which left the ruling coalition on Tuesday evening, was using “a mandate from nearly 100,000 votes,” furthermore, “he [Neverovič] would have been accused of putting his ministerial posts above the interests of the Poles of Lithuania,” if he had not obeyed the party’s instructions.

“I have no doubts that it also means that the LLRA will have to provide an explanation of the latest developments and explain how they help represent the ideas the party presented during the elections. I don’t think it will be an easy job,” he added.

Delegated to the government by the LLRA, Neverovič is not a member of the party. He was dismissed from the Ministry of Energy after appointed LLRA member Cytacka as his vice-minister, even though the prime minister objected.
