Balsys would not comment on his health condition or say if the was treated for any addictions
“I am voting today and I am in the Seimas. You know, health diagnoses are a doctor and patient matter. The law guarantees privacy even for public persons,” the lawmaker told BNS on Thursday.
“Yes, it’s mostly due to stressful life, stress-caused illness and so on,” he added.
Some parliamentarians earlier this year accused Balsys of coming to his job in the Seimas in an intoxicated condition.
The lawmaker on Nov. 9 agreed to blow into a breathalyzer device, producing a reading of 1.82 per mille of alcohol, and left the Seimas building shortly afterwards.
Law-enforcement officials launched a probe into a suspected drunk-driving incident, but later closed it due to insufficient evidence.
