Lithuania’s Justice Ministry makes another bid to legalize opposite-sex partnership

“The proposed amendments would ensure and regulate the rights and obligations of a man and a woman who have not registered a marriage, but are living together and building a family relationship, as well as protect the interests of these individuals and their children,” the ministry said in a press release on Friday.

According to Minister of Justice Juozas Bernatonis, experts estimate that such a law would be relevant to around 200,000 people in Lithuania, where an estimated 100,000 couples live together without registering a marriage.
